Welcome to my blog interview with novelist Shadonna Richards. If you like what you read, please investigate her books at Amazon.

A.C. James: Hello, Shadonna. Please tell us something about yourself, where you’re based, and how you came to be a writer.

Shadonna: Hi, A.C. Thanks for having me as a guest on your blog. I’m a romance author based in Canada. I enjoy writing stories about the power of love and happily-ever-after.

A.C. James: And what genre do you generally write and what have you had published to-date? What do you think of eBooks?

Shadonna:  I write contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I’ve published more than ten titles in contemporary romance to date including the Bride Series and Whirlwind Romance series. I’m currently at work on several more romance novels. And, I love reading e-books on my e-reader or smartphone.

A.C. James: Me too… I’m addicted to e-books. Have you self-published? If so, what lead to you to become an indie author?

Shadonna: Yes, I am self-published. I was inspired by an article I had read on Amanda Hocking a couple of years ago. I then became a fan of her blog. Her journey in self-publishing really motivated me to have my fiction manuscript professionally edited and later published on Kindle.

A.C. James: I think it’s important to do it right. Hire out for editing and cover art. The misconceptions about self-publishing and the dodgy covers are slowly fading. Do you have a favorite of your stories or characters?

Shadonna: Hmm… Actually, they are all my favorites. It’s so hard to choose. J

A.C. James: Like children, right? 😉 Which authors did you read when you were younger and did they shape you as a writer?

Shadonna: I’ve read many authors when I was younger from the classics to contemporary and they’ve all shaped the way I write.

A.C. James: And do you manage to write every day, and do you plot your stories or just get an idea and run with it?

Shadonna: Good question. I write as often as I can. Mostly every day. I often plot my storyline beforehand and do my character development profiles. Then I flesh it out on the computer, but there are times when an idea slips into my mind and I can’t type fast enough to keep up with the flow of the events. I just run with it and let the characters tell the story.

A.C. James: Do you do a lot of editing or research?

Shadonna: I do tons of editing and research when I am writing my stories. Once I’ve been through my story a few times and I have polished it, proofed and copy edited it, I then send it off to my editor.

A.C. James: What point of view do you find most to your liking: first person or third person? Have you ever tried second person?

Shadonna: I prefer third person past tense, however, I have tried first person on one of my earlier works. As far as second person is concerned, that is something I’ve not tried.

A.C. James: Are you involved in anything else writing-related other than actual writing or marketing of your writing?

Shadonna: Not really. Writing stories, editing and marketing pretty much fills up my schedule. J

A.C. James: Tell us what you are working on at the moment or next.

Shadonna: I’m currently at work on several more books in the Bride Series and I’m having tons of fun with the intriguing characters. J

A.C. James: It does sound like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to have you back when they’re released. Where can we find out about you and your writing?

Shadonna: You can visit my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/authorshadonnarichards I love to hear from readers! It really makes my day!
